The Penticton Fire Department is a composite department providing a range of emergency and non-emergency services.
Our team attends to the public's safety, which can include responding to structure fires, grass and urban/interface fires and other emergency incidents such as motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, marine emergencies and technical rescues.Â
Career Firefighters
Career firefighters respond to all calls including medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and fire alarm activations. They are trained to high technical standards, including rescue techniques for confined spaces, high angles, and water and ice rescue.
Those considering a career in the fire and rescue field should consider training to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001. Currently, career firefighter positions are filled through the recruitment of auxiliary firefighters.
Auxiliary Firefighters
Auxiliary firefighters are paid for attending call-outs to day and night emergencies. Being an auxiliary is a great way to be involved in the community, learn firefighting and emergency skills, keep physically fit and to enjoy the camaraderie of being actively involved in the fire service.
Auxiliary recruitment drives are held as required. People who live in Penticton are encouraged to apply. Information, including qualifications, will be posted on the City's Career Opportunities page.
