• Subdivision and Development

  The Subdivision and Development Bylaw sets out the minimum acceptable standards for the design and construction of municipal infrastructure within the City. It’s important for the development community to understand how this bylaw can impact the development application being proposed. Please contact us to discuss this bylaw well in advance of making a formal application.

• Development Cost Charges

  Development Cost Charges (DCCs) are collected from land developers to offset some of the infrastructure expenditures incurred to service the needs of new development. The charges are intended to facilitate development by providing a method to finance capital projects related to roads, drainage, sewers, water and parkland.

  On October 18, 2022, Council adopted DCC Bylaw 2022-38.  The Bylaw outlines when DCCs are imposed and at which stage of the development process. Typically, DCCs are charges at either the subdivision or building permit stage and are assessed to new developments to fund the extension of roads, water, sewer, and storm water.

• Road Widenings

  Road widenings are a function of ensuring the City is able to achieve better design standards for roads within the City limits. It also creates the potential for improved pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks, boulevards, street trees, benches or lighting.

  The Road Widening Map can be accessed on Penticton GIS map under the Planning tab. Prior to purchasing a property or applying to redevelop a site, please ensure that you are aware of any potential road widening areas contained on your property.

• Earthworks

  If you are moving, removing or depositing soil, sand, gravel, rock, or other substances of which land is composed from, on, and to lands within the City of Penticton.  Compliance with Earthworks Control Bylaw 2006-65 and an Earthworks application is required.

• Blasting

  Developments may require the use of explosives to move, displace or break rock or other material.  Blasting Control Bylaw 2016-16 outlines the requirements and include the Application for a Blasting Permit.

• Road Closures

  If you need to use part or all of a City road, boulevard or sidewalk for construction, temporary placement of a bin/container or to operate a private/business event (not open to the public), please complete and submit the Construction Road Closure Application (forms are available on our Engineering Application Forms page).

  If you would like to use the sidewalk or boulevard for a private or business use that is open to the general public, or if you want to rent on street parking from the City for a fixed duration, please complete and submit the Sidewalk and Parking Stall Rental Application Form.
