After hitting the pandemic ‘pause’ button last year on festive events, we’re all ready for some extra cheer this season. So why not dig out the tinsel, warm up your carolling voices and get ready to kick off the celebrations?

This Love Local blog rounds up some activities and events to help get you into the festive spirit.

Note that public health protocols remain in place. Please check with the venue ahead of booking your tickets to find out about proof of vaccination requirements.

24 Days of Christmas

Ongoing until Dec. 16, 2021
How would you like the chance to win a shopping spree downtown? All you have to do to enter is visit one of the participating businesses in downtown Penticton and enter your name into the draw before Dec. 16. The lucky winner will be selected at noon on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. This contest is organized by the Downtown Penticton Association, in partnership with Castanet.

Holiday Shopping Hours at Cherry Lane

Winter Market: Dec. 11, 12, 18 & 19 (Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Peruse the shops and enjoy the festive decorations and music. Extended shopping hours begin Dec. 1. Also don't miss the Winter Market, brought to you by the Penticton Farmers' Market, over two weekends in December!

Cannery Centre Christmas Craft Fair

Saturday, Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 5
Looking for something special to put under the tree? Here’s your chance to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts and enjoy the festive atmosphere at the Cannery Trade Centre, 1475 Fairview Road, taking place over two weekends. Santa will be visiting. Find out more!

Santa Rec Run

Saturday, Nov. 27 (5-7 p.m.)
This family-oriented event returns! Kick off the holiday season with friends and family by running or walking in the kids’ fun run (1 km or 5 km). The fun run begins at Loco Landing parking lot, heading along Lakeshore and through downtown, past the lights of the community which are lighting up the course. Register ahead of time with organisers Hoodoo Adventures!

Oh Christmas Tea

Wednesday, Dec. 8 & Thursday, Dec. 9
Fans of Monty Python, Mr. Bean, and Dr. Seuss… Grab your teacups! The holiday season is fast approaching and, after nearly two full years away from the stage, beloved British comedy duo James and Jamesy are back with O Christmas Tea. Get your tickets for this production, at Cleland Theatre, 325 Power Street.

Cycling with Santa

Saturday, Dec. 11 (Pedal starts at 1 p.m.)
Calling all families! Santa is riding in to Penticton for this special event organized by Penticton Area Cycling Association (PACA). Bring down the bikes to Gyro Park for a pedal starting at 1 p.m., followed by pictures with Santa after the ride by donation, with proceeds going to the Foundry.

Last Chance Holiday Market

Saturday, Dec. 11 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) & Sunday, Dec. 12 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Get all your shopping done on your shopping list from a great selection of local artisans, farmers, specialty food and beverage producers. It all takes place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power Street. Proof of vaccination is required to attend and masks are mandatory. Entry fee is $3 at the door, free for under 12.

A Christmas Extravaganza

Wednesday, Dec 15 to Saturday, Dec. 18
This grand production takes the stage for five shows over four days, presented by Soundstage Productions. Get into the spirit of the season at Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre, 21 Lakeshore Drive. Tickets are $52 plus tax and proof of vaccination is required. Tickets can be purchased online or at the front desk.

O Holy Night

Sunday, Dec. 19 (Doors at 6:30 p.m., concert at 7 p.m.)
Tracy Fehr presents an evening of Christmas music with Seraphim Early Music Ensemble and special guests at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Enjoy traditional favourites, medieval and renaissance duets, trios and more. Tickets are $31.97 and must be purchased in advance from Eventbrite.
