• Large Item Collection

  The large item collection is an opportunity to dispose of large or bulky items such as furniture, appliances (refrigerators/stoves), exercise equipment, or mattress. For more information about the upcoming dates, visit our Large Item Collection webpage. 

• Bear Smart Curbside Collection

  With bear, deer and other wildlife living in and around the City of Penticton, it’s important to do our best to minimize attractants. Please consider the following steps when preparing your bins for collection:

  • Place your garbage at the curb no earlier than 5 a.m. on collection day and remove from curbside soon after collection.
  • Ensure your garbage cart lid is closed and the cart is stored in a clean, secure location.
  • Keep your carts clean and free of excess, smelly garbage. Consider freezing odorous garbage prior to placing at the curb on collection day.
  • Rinse and clean any recyclables.
  • Review the RDOS's WildSafeBC website for tips, guides, and educational resources on how to reduce potential risk for negative encounters with wildlife, including bears.
• Snowing Outside? Tips for Collection Day

  Place your carts out at their designated collection point by 7 a.m. on your regularly scheduled garbage day. Garbage collection may be limited in laneways and side streets that trucks cannot safely access. If your garbage is not collected by the end of the day, residents can place an extra bag of garbage alongside their carts on their next collection day.

  Tips for placing out carts during snow events: 

  • Find or clear an unobstructed spot to locate your carts. 
  • Consider placing one cart on either side of your driveway after it’s been cleared of snow.
  • Make sure carts are one metre away from any obstacles.
  • Please do not place any carts behind or on top of snow banks. 
  • Clear the lids of your carts of ice and snow.

• Tag-a-bag stickers available for extra garbage

  If you have extra garbage that will not fit into your designated cart, you can purchase tag-a-bag stickers from City Hall, City Yards, or the Community Centre. 

  • On collection day, place the gabage bag(s) next to your cart with the sticker visible for the garbage collection contractor.
  • Bags must not weigh over 23kg (50lb).

• Missed Collections

  Garbage collection is a contracted service through Waste Connections of Canada. To report a missed collection, please call them directly at 250-490-3888.
